Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of photography do you specialize in?

I provide a wide range of outdoor portrait photography services—from capturing weddings on mountaintops to documenting full-scale expeditions in remote wilderness. Whether it's an adrenaline-fueled adventure or a quiet, meaningful moment in nature, I aim to tell your story authentically. Check out my services page to learn more →

Do you only shoot in Queenstown? Can you travel for a shoot?

I’m based in Queenstown, but I’m available for shoots anywhere across the South Island. Just share your vision, and I’ll help plan an unforgettable shoot location tailored to your adventure. Contact me to discuss travel options, locations, and any additional transport fees.

How do you work on location—do I need to plan anything, or do you handle logistics?

It depends on the type of shoot. For adventure or expedition photography, I typically join as an active participant in the journey. For portrait sessions, sports shoots, weddings, and events, I can also assist with logistics—such as transport arrangements, support crew, or assistants—based on what you need.

Can you help with location scouting or permits for remote areas?

Yes, I can assist with location scouting and, where possible, help with permit requirements. Some areas—especially private land or conservation zones—may require additional planning. I’ll support you through the process, but please note that additional fees may apply depending on the location and scale of the shoot.

Are you certified or trained for outdoor/adventure conditions?

Yes—I hold NZOIA-issued qualifications as a Bush Leader and Rock Leader, along with an Outdoor First Aid certification and completed training in White Water Rescue. I’m also a certified paraglider pilot and trained in rope systems and rigging, which allows me to safely access high or technical shooting locations. Your safety and the success of the adventure are always a priority.

Do you offer helicopter access to shoot locations?

Yes! For some of the most remote and spectacular locations, helicopter access may be the only way to get there. I partner with trusted local helicopter operators and can arrange transport as needed. Helicopter access is available for an additional fee and quoted based on location and flight time.

How do I book a shoot with you?

Please reach out via my contact form and share a few details about the shoot you have in mind—what kind of service you're interested in, preferred timing, and any other key info. I’ll get back to you personally to discuss your vision and tailor the shoot to your needs.

What does a typical photography session cost?

Pricing depends on the type and scale of the shoot. A basic outdoor portrait session (1 hour, approx. 20 edited images) starts at $250 NZD. For full-day shoots, my rate is $1,000 NZD, plus accommodation, meals, and transport if applicable. Expedition-style or multi-day shoots are priced individually based on logistics and specific needs. Feel free to get in touch for a custom quote.

Do you offer custom packages for longer projects or brand campaigns?

Yes! For brand campaigns, I collaborate with professional brand communications specialist Nina Etelavuori to offer tailored packages that go beyond just photography. Together, we can plan a full shoot around your goals—from defining visual objectives based on your brand values and target audience, to producing ready-to-use social media content. Whether you need just the shoot or full campaign support, we’ve got you covered.

How far in advance should I book?

It depends on the complexity of your project. For simpler sessions like portraits or family shoots, I may be available on just a few days’ notice. For more complex projects—like remote adventures or brand campaigns—it's best to reach out at least a week in advance. Contact me to check availability and secure your preferred date.

What happens if the weather is bad on the shoot day?

It depends on the type of shoot and your objectives. Sometimes, bad weather can actually create dramatic, moody images that add depth to the story. However, if conditions are unsafe—especially for remote locations or helicopter access—we’ll either reschedule or cancel at no extra charge. Your safety always comes first.

How many photos will I receive?

It depends on the scope of your shoot. A one-hour portrait session typically includes 20–40 fully edited images. For full-day events or projects, you can expect anywhere from 150 to 300 photos, depending on your delivery needs and what we agree on during planning.

How are the photos delivered, and in what format?

Photos are typically delivered via a Lightroom link, allowing you to download all images in high-resolution JPG format. The gallery stays active for 60 days. For brand shoots or special projects, custom delivery options can be arranged. Please note: downloads are enabled once the invoice has been fully paid.

Do you offer prints or only digital images?

High-quality prints are available as an optional extra, usually after the digital gallery has been delivered—so you can choose your favorite shots. I can also prepare a professionally designed photo album from your shoot as a lasting keepsake.

Do you retouch/edit all the photos? Can I request specific edits?

Only the selected photos for delivery are edited. I focus on color grading, lighting adjustments, and minor blemish removal—but I don’t do heavy Photoshop or body retouching. My goal is to keep the images true to the moment and as authentic as possible.

Can you create content specifically for my outdoor brand’s campaign?

Absolutely. While my main focus is still photography, I also create short-form videos for social media. Each project is tailored to your brand’s goals—whether you're launching a new product, running a seasonal campaign, or just need lifestyle content. Get in touch and let’s plan something that fits your vision.

Do you work with couples planning elopements or adventure weddings?

Yes—and every elopement or wedding shoot begins with a conversation. I take the time to understand your story, your vision, and what inspired you to choose an outdoor or adventure-style celebration. From there, we plan a shoot that reflects who you are and what matters most to you as a couple.

Can we include pets, kids, or wild locations in our family shoot?

Absolutely—just let me know what you'd like to include, and we’ll plan the shoot accordingly. Keep in mind that some locations, like Mount Cook National Park or private land, may have restrictions on pets. For shoots involving kids, safety is always the top priority, and the final location depends on what's logistically appropriate.

Do you work with other creatives or offer full-service storytelling packages?

I don’t currently offer full-service packages beyond photography and selected collaborations, but feel free to get in touch with your specific needs. If I can support or recommend someone from my network, I’ll do my best to help.

Can you help plan the adventure for an expedition-style photoshoot?

Yes! For adventure shoots, I can support with planning—this includes location scouting, route planning, and safety considerations. However, please note that I participate as a photographer and not as a guide with full safety responsibility. I always prioritize safety and come prepared, but the responsibility for leading or supervising the adventure itself must lie with qualified guides or the participants.
